It is not usual to see a Bharatiya Janata Party leader being invited by the Students Federation of India (SFI) for a seminar on communalism. The former Union Minister O. Rajagopal was an invitee at the recent seminar at the University College grounds.

Mr. Rajagopal began his speech by pointing out that it was for the very first time that he was invited to a programme by the SFI. He added that the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee too had begun his political career as an SFI activist.

Mr. Rajagopal said he had come mainly to hear the speech of "comrade PG," CPI(M) ideologue P. Govinda Pillai, the other invite. "I agree with 90 per cent of what PG said... no I agree with 95 per cent of what he said... " Mr. Rajagopal continued.

Not to be outdone in courtesy, the crowd, comprising SFI activists and CPI(M) sympathisers, listened attentively to the BJP leader's speech and gave him a rousing applause.
