PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual pongala festival at Chakkulathukavu Bhagavathy Temple at Neerettupuram, near Thiruvalla, will be held on December 4.

In a statement here on Friday, temple administrator Manikkuttan Namboodiri said the pongala festival would begin with the `Ashtadravya Ganapati homom' at 4.30 a.m.

Chief priest Radhakrishnan Namboodiri will light the pongala hearth in front of the temple at 9 a.m.

The devotees will prepare the pongala offering in various premises around the shrine.

Special pongala coupon counters have already been opened at Chakkulathukavu, according to the temple PRO Suresh Kavumbhagom.

Cultural meet

Mr. Suresh said Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan would inaugurate the cultural meet in the afternoon. Thomas Chandy, MLA, will preside.

The temple chief priest will deliver the benedictory speech.
