Campaign to reduce power consumption

KOLLAM: An elaborate campaign has been undertaken by the Kollam chapter of the Energy Conservation Society (ECS) to observe National Energy Conservation Day on Thursday.

The aim is to reduce power consumption to the maximum in the State during peak evening hours.

The day is being observed by the ECS at the State level in association with the Kerala State Electricity Board.

The public was urged to switch off all unnecessary electric appliances between 6.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. on Thursday in a statement here on Wednesday by ECS Kollam chapter chairman K. Radhakrishnan, and secretary H. Reghudas.

Consumers should avoid using blenders, pumps and iron during this period. Lights which are not required should also be switched off.

The ECS had decided to project Kerala as a model in energy conservation during the peak evening hours, said Mr. Radhakrishnan.
