Thiruvananthapuram: K.R. Meera’s short story titled ‘Guillotine’ and Ranjith’s film, ‘Thirakatha’ have been selected for the Padmarajan awards 2008 instituted by the Padmarajan Memorial Trust.

The award for the best short story was judged by a committee chaired by S.V. Venugopan Nair, with Chandramathi and B. Babu Prasad as members.

‘Guillotine’ was featured in the Mathrubhumi weekly last year. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a citation.

The jury for the cinema award had K.G. George as chairman and Manarcaud Mathew and Gandhimathi Balan as members.

The screenplay and direction of ‘Thirakatha’ were by Ranjith. While the best director gets a purse of Rs.20,000 and a citation, the award for the best screenplay has a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a citation.

The awards will be presented at a function to be held at the Tagore Theatre here on May 23, Mr. George, Ms. Chandramathi and Mr. Nair told a press conference here on Wednesday.
