Kochi: A.K. Lohithadas, screenplay writer and director, died in hospital here on Sunday morning following a massive heart attack. He is survived by wife Sindhu and sons Harikrishnan and Vijayasankar. Ambazhakathil Karunakaran Lohithadas started off rather unsuccessfully as a short-story writer. But he soon made his mark as a playwright. In 1987, he scripted the award-winning screenplay for Thaniyavarthanam, directed by Sibi Malayil.
The ‘Sibi-Lohi’ duo was among the most successful combinations in Malayalam cinema, churning out a series of movies such as Ezhuthapurangal, Kireedom, Mudra, His Highness Abdullah, Bharatham and Kamaladalam.
