The precision of aircraft movements at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) is all set to improve with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) expected to install a Surface Movement Radar here soon.

According to top company officials, a proposal for radar installation at the airport has been agreed upon with the AAI. The airport company will soon start the construction work in the area marked for the radar station on getting the approval from the agency.

“Our intent is to build upon the significant growth in commercial aviation in Kochi as this will be another important tool which facilitates a faster throughput of movements,'' said a senior company official.

CIAL has already finalised the proceedings to acquire about one acre of land outside the airport perimeter on the southern side to establish the radar station. Official sources said while CIAL would get a percentage of the service as rental charges, the navigation charges would accrue to the airport authority on the equipment's commissioning.
