KALPETTA: M.I. Shanavas, MP, inaugurated the first community radio station in the State at Dwaraka, near Mananthavady, in Wayanad district on Saturday. The radio station has been launched on the initiative of the Wayanad Social Service Society, a social-service organisation under the catholic diocese of Mananthavady.

Mr. Shanavas said the Centre was preparing a special agriculture package for the comprehensive development of the agriculture sector in the district. The proposed package was in its final stage and Union Minister for State for Agriculture K.V. Thomas would declare it soon. Bishop Mar Jose Porunnedom presided.

The radio programmes would be aired for six hours a day initially. The programmes would be in Malayalam. The programmes for tribal people would be aired in their language.
