KOLLAM: The J.C. Daniel Award will be presented to film producer K. Raveendranathan Nair by Minister for Cultural Affairs M.A. Baby at a function at the Sopanam auditorium here on Thursday.

Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan will preside over the function.

The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, a trophy and citation, was constituted by the State government in 1992 and is given to those who have made valuable contribution to Malayalam cinema.

Mayor N. Padmalochanan will present a shawl to Mr. Nair at the function.

Award jury chairman Adoor Gopalakrishnan will read out the citation.

A book on Mr. Nair titled ‘Cinema: Art and Capital’ will be released by district panchayat president K. Somaprasad. The award function will be followed by a ghazal programme by singer Umbai.
