A building to house the N.S. Memorial Nursing School at Palathara in the city will be inaugurated by Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan on Sunday.

The nursing school is a unit of the Kollam District Cooperative Hospital Society, which also runs the N.S. Hospital.

President of the society M. Gangadhara Kurup said the building for the nursing school was constructed at a cost of Rs.2 crore. It has facilities to accommodate 200 students. The society intends starting B.Sc. Nursing course next year.

The institutions were established in memory of CPI(M) leader N. Sreedharan who died in a car accident in February 1985.

Mr. Kurup said the hospital was founded to provide quality medical treatment at affordable rates to the common man. CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat had inaugurated it in March 2006 .

Mayor Prasanna Earnest, A.A. Azeez, MLA; and district panchayat president R. Gopalakrishna Pillai will attend the Sunday's function.
