KOLLAM: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has called upon publishers to bring out books that people will want to read. He was inaugurating an 11-day mega book fair, organised in connection with the 35th anniversary celebrations of DC Books, at the YMCA grounds here on Friday.

Dr. Tharoor said there was a lot of difference between wanting to read a book and wanting a book to read. Publishers should cater to the first category by publishing books that are worth reading and expand the horizon of the mind. He said Kerala had a rich reading tradition. Every village in the State had a reading room. The State should never lose its love of literature, he said.

Social critic Sukumar Azhikode inaugurated the cultural festival organised in connection with the fair.

Six new books in Malayalam were launched. These include ‘Yudhabhashanam’ by Arundhati Roy.
