T.M. Jacob remains leader, Johnny Nellore chairman in party polls

KOTTAYAM: The Kerala Congress (Jacob) will launch an agitation against the alleged government apathy in controlling the price of essential commodities.

Party leader T.M. Jacob told mediapersons here on Friday that the State was witnessing one of the worst rise in price of essential goods in recent years.

He criticised the move of the Left Democratic Front leaders to dub the price rise a result of the policies of the Union government. He said States such as West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka were able to hold the price line.

The price rise is the result of inept handling of the situation, Mr. Jacob said. His party will launch an agitation if the government fails to take corrective measures immediately.

Mr. Jacob criticised the attack on churches in Orissa.

Responding to a query, Mr. Jacob said formalities regarding the re-entry of his party into the United Democratic Front (UDF) had already been completed.

Awaiting invite

The party was expecting an invitation from the UDF to participate in the next liaison committee meeting of the front.

Office-bearers

The organisational elections of the party were completed on Friday with the State committee electing its new leadership.

Mr. Jacob will remain party leader and Johnny Nellore party chairman.

Johnny Sebastian will be treasurer.

The State committee also elected two vice-chairmen and seven general secretaries, in addition to a 24-member high-power committee and a 50-member working committee.
