To educate them about facilities

MALAPPURAM: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Malappuram, will organise an interface between farmers and various agencies involved in agriculture on Tuesday.

The programme, aimed at educating farmers about departments and agencies of agriculture and the facilities available, will be held at the Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering Technology (KCAET) at Tavanur, near Ponnani. About 200 farmers selected by the Agriculture Department from the blocks of Tirur, Ponnani, Valanchery, Ponmundam and Perumpadappu will take part in the interface.

Director of Extension M.K. Sheela will inaugurate the programme. Dean of KCAET D. Sivaswamy will preside over the function. Principal Agricultural Officer at Malappuram G. Sudarshanan will moderate the interface.

Chiefs of organisations such as Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium, HORTICORP, and State Horticultural Mission, and officials of the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection and Kerala State Cooperative Agricultural and Rural Development Bank will take part in the interface.

D. Sreedaya, assistant professor at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Malappuram, said that many of the schemes evolved by various agricultural departments and agencies were not reaching the deserving farmers.

She said that in most cases, the benefits went to the same groups of farmers every year.

The second phase of the interface will be held in February next year, in which a new group of farmers will undergo training.
