KOLLAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will commission the Asteion Super 4 edition whole-body multislice CT scanner at the District Hospital here on December 9.

Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy will formally switch on the scanner. District panchayat president K. Somaprasad told presspersons here on Thursday that this was the first such scanner to be installed by the Kerala Health Services.

It was purchased from the Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation, Japan, at a cost of Rs.1.40 crore.

People’s plan

The scheme for purchasing the scanner was included in the people’s plan programme of the panchayat with support from grama and block panchayats of the district, Kollam Corporation and the municipal councils of Paravur and Punalur.
