Maximum prevailing fine will be imposed

PATHANAMTHITTA: District Collector Raju Narayana Swamy has said the district administration would further toughen stand against illegal sand-mining in the district.

Talking to The Hindu on Monday, the Collector said a fine of Rs.25,000 (prevailing maximum fine limit) would be imposed on all those who were found engaged in sand smuggling.

Additional fine

This is besides levying an amount equal to the value of the vehicle used for sand smuggling from its owner for releasing the vehicle, he added. Mr. Swamy said the administration would also explore the possibility of raising the maximum limit of the fine amount from the prevailing Rs.25,000 in an effort to check illegal sand-mining in the district.
