PATHANAMTHITTA: This year’s carol fest, ‘Pulkoottil Pookkalam,’ organised by the Department of Sacred Music and Communications (DSMC) attached to the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar will be held at the Church auditorium on the SC Seminary Mount in Thiruvalla on December 1.

A two-hour performance by music troupe ‘Rex Band’ will be the main attraction of the carol fest, said DSMC director Fr Sajan P. Mathew.

Alphons Joseph and Stephen Devassy would lead the music event to be held from 5.30 to 8.30 pm, Fr Sajan said. The Thiruvalla Coral Society, led by Prof. Jacob Kurien, will also perform at the musical evening. The Rex Band will unleash a unique style of music concert which will feature ethnic and contemporary elements, said Fr Sajan P. Mathew.

Rex Band is a musical outreach of Jesus Youth that has grown into a worldwide ministry with over 25 artistes with a distinctive talent in music or theatre.

It reaches out to today’s youth using new-generation programmes like albums and encounter programmes. Most of the Rex Band songs are set to choreographed movements, making them more attractive to the youth.

According to Fr. Sajan P. Mathew, Mar Thoma Metropolitan Joseph Mar Thoma will inaugurate the fest at 5.30 pm on December 1. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan, will deliver the benedictory speech on the occasion.
