MALAPPURAM: The Samastha Kerala Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) will organise a rally here on Saturday in protest against the claims made by the EK Sunni faction (named after Shamsul Ulama E.K. Aboobacker Musliar, the former leader of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, Chelari).
The EK Sunni faction had taken out a march to the office of the District Superintendent of Police here on Monday charging the police with helping the AP Sunni faction (named after Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar, general secretary of the All-India Jamiyyathul Ulama) in matters of dispute between the two groups.
The SYS leaders here on Thursday refuted the allegations of the E.K. Sunni faction. SYS State secretary K. Abdurahman Faizi, district president Abdurahman Darimi Koottampara and Sunni Management Association district secretary K.M.A. Rahim said the E.K. Sunni group was deliberately trying to create trouble with the aid of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) at Karulayi, Cheekode, Perincheeri and South Kuttoor.
They said IUML was spreading the wrong message that all religious institutions faced the threat of closure under the Communist rule. “The E.K. Sunni group was making false claims by trying to wrest the control of mahls and madrasas in the district,” they said.
Various Sunni organisations under the AP faction will take part in the protest rally on Saturday. The rally will begin from Kottappadi at 10 a.m. and conclude on the Collectorate premises. Senior leaders of the SYS will address the rally.
