KANNUR: An action committee, represented by Dalit and Adivasi organisation, has been formed to protect petrol pumps and LPG agencies owned by people belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe from being taken over by others.

Bharatiya Pattikajana Samajam leader C. Padmanabhan and Rashtriya Mahasabha general secretary M. Geethanandan said at a press conference here on Wednesday that Cherukunnu Petroleum owned by a woman belonging to the Scheduled Caste was restored to the original owner.

Ms. Padmanabhan and Mr. Geethanandan said Ms. Sajitha had been sanctioned an IBP petrol pump by the Indian Oil Corporation. The person who helped her secure the sanction had been running the pump and misusing the bank accounts, they said. They said many other petrol pumps and gas agencies sanctioned to those belonging to the SC and ST communities were being misappropriated by non-SC/ST persons. The action committee would chalk out plans in this regard.
