THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Museum grounds in the city wore a festive look on Sunday morning. Hundreds of children from schools across the State converged on the sprawling premises to participate in the all-Kerala painting competition organised by the Jawahar Balajana Vedi for the Chachaji gold medal, 2007.
Noted artist and sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman inaugurated the event. President of the District Congress Committee V.S. Sivakumar presided over the function. Former MP Thalekkunnil Basheer, former MLA Palode Ravi, and chairman of the Jawahar Balajana Vedi G.V. Hari were present.
The participants included those from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Kozhikode and those selected from the preliminary rounds held in other districts. The competitions were held in categories for lower primary, upper primary, high school and higher secondary students. While the contest for LP school students was confined to colouring drawings, UP students were given the topic ‘Deepawali’ to paint. The theme for high school students was ‘Rain’ and for the higher secondary, it was ‘Children and Gandhiji.’
The first prize in each category comprised a gold medal of half sovereign while the runners up would get gold medals of quarter sovereign each.
The five best paintings in the high school and higher secondary categories would be entitled to an e-learning package.
Mr. Hari said the prizes would be given away to the winners at a function to be held at Kottarakara on November 14.
