Blames MPs from the State for inaction

KARIPUR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany charged the country’s national carrier Air India with fleecing the poor people of Malabar who travel through Calicut International Airport at Karipur.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the State Haj House here on Monday, the PDP chairman blamed AI for the lack of development of Calicut International Airport. The national carrier is making up its loss in other sectors with the “huge profit” it makes from Karipur, he said.

Mr. Maudany demanded that the name of Calicut International Airport be changed to Malabar International Airport and the proposed airport at Kannur be treated as its subsidiary. He said deliberate attempts were being made by vested interests to weaken the airport.

He blamed the State’s Parliament Members for being mere spectators as the Central funds for development were being channelised to Tamil Nadu. He also demanded that the State and Central Haj authorities provide better facilities in Jeddah and Mecca for elderly women who go for Haj from Kerala.
