KOLLAM: Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP-B) veteran Baby John turned 90 on Sunday. Well wishers started visiting his residence at the Shankar Hospital Junction from morning. Mr. Baby John appeared cheerful for most of the day.

The celebrations were organised by a Pathanamthitta-based acupuncture centre where Mr. Baby John has been taking treatment for some time now.

Kollam Bishop Stanley Roman was among those who arrived in the morning.

Mr. Baby John’s wife, Annamma, and their children, Sheela, Shaji and Shibu were present.

An informal meeting, presided over by Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy, was held at the house. Assembly Speaker K. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the meeting by lighting a traditional lamp.

Mr. Chandy said he was there for the celebrations as a member of the Baby John family.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said Mr. Baby John’s contributions to the State were valuable.

The Speaker presented Mr. Baby John with a memento of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. M.A. Baby, P.K. Sreemathy and Mathew T. Thomas, Ministers; Simon Britto, MLA, former Minister Babu Divakaran and Social Welfare Department Secretary Lida Jacob called on the veteran leader.

Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony conveyed his greetings over the phone. A surprise guest in the evening was RSP State secretary T.J. Chandrachoodan.
