KOCHI: To matters of the heart, people always listen. In his new book ‘Heart Attack Bhayapadate Jeevikkam’ (Living without fearing heart attack), cardiologist George Thayyil has given a few tips on how to go about consulting doctors and what one should know while going in for any tests for heart ailments.

Though doctors these days are open about the procedures planned for a patient, it is always best for the patient to know exactly what he is in for, as part of the treatment.

For the layman, the book is informative but at times a little technical. The book contains a whole lot of information like the most known treadmill test and ECG to tips for those who have had an attack. Dr. Thayyil has quoted a number of studies in his book that have been conclusive in providing new information on the heart and its disorders. The book also discusses heart attack in men and women separately. For instance, how a coronary block in women may not be found out by a treadmill test. The book is written in a question-answer format with answers to 52 questions. It is published by Current Books and priced at Rs.100.
