Five film organisations join hands to float forum

KOCHI: Five organisations in Malayalam film industry have launched a new platform called Malayalam Cinema Forum to promote quality cinema and ensure returns for the investors by encouraging small-budget movies.

The organisations that have joined hands for the new venture are the Kerala Film Producers Association, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, the State Exhibitors’ Federation, Distributors’ Association and the Malayalam Cine Technicians’ Association (MACTA) Federation.

Announcing future plans, forum chairman Vinayan said here on Saturday that it would promote movies made with less than Rs. 1.5 crore. The cost includes remuneration of actors and technicians associating with a project.

Maximum profit

This does not mean that the forum would not cooperate with movies that have a higher budget. The aim is to ensure maximum profit by controlling the production cost considerably, Mr. Vinayan said.

He said steps will be taken to ensure the release of films (that have entered into an agreement with the forum) in at least 30 release centres in the State.

Efforts will be made to promote films made by new directors. Projects with newcomers in lead roles will also be encouraged.

The forum will explore new marketing methods to spread awareness about a movie.

It will seek the cooperation of experts in promoting a movie within State and outside. The forum will support films made in the digital format. Forum members also voiced support for setting up digital telecast facilities in cinemas across the State by this year-end.
