THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) is launching a project to harness satellite technology for student counselling. SIET has joined hands with the Higher Secondary Directorate, Vocational Higher Secondary Directorate and the IT@School Project to organise an extended career counselling programme using EDUSAT.

The programme is aimed at second year higher secondary and vocational higher secondary students. Spread over six months beginning August 21, 2007, it will cover possibilities for higher education, career planning, personality development, communication skills, selection skills, interview techniques and medical/ engineering entrance exam training. The programme will be telecast every day. As many as one lakh students from 699 higher secondary schools and 164 vocational higher secondary schools are expected to derive the benefit of the counselling programme through the Edusat receive-only terminals.

SIET Director Babu Sebastian said an online model test would be held in February for students taking the entrance examination for professional courses.
