KASARAGOD: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the Kerala Tulu Academy here on September 3, Manjeswaram MLA C.H. Kunhambu has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that the academy would fulfil the longstanding aspirations of a linguistic minority here.

He noted that the State budget had earmarked Rs. 20 lakh for the academy. Assistant Education Officer, Manjeswaram, had been appointed special officer for the project, he said.

Mr. Kunhambu said the LDF Government had announced a slew of development projects for the constituency in the last one year.

The State Government had given permission to set up an applied science college of IHRD at Manjeswaram. The college would be constructed on six acres of land contributed by the trustees of Poomani-Kinnimani temple at Bhambrana village, he said.

Sanction was also given for constructing an academic block at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore in Govindapai Government College, Manjeswaram.

The Government had agreed to provide financial assistance for establishing a memorial to noted poet Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai at Manjeswaram. The 125th birthday celebrations of the poet would be held with a one-year long programme, Mr. Kunhambu said.

The MLA said a Yakshagana Centre would be established in the constituency in the name of Parthisubba, doyen of the art form.

The renovation of Manjeswaram check-post, for which the Rs. 3 crore had been granted, would begin soon. The building would have state-of-the-art facilities including a scanner and weighing machine, he said.

The MLA said Endosulfan victims in Swarga and Vani Nagar areas in his constituency had been provided help as announced by the Chief Minister.
