Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister M.A. Baby on Wednesday defended the Government decision on the fee structure and quota for self-financing professional institutions.

Replying to a reference on the Government decision during a debate on the demands for supplementary grants in the Assembly, Mr. Baby said the situation had improved considerably as the managements agreed to a 50-50 seat sharing formula.

He said the 50-50 arrangement was much better than the UDF formula that gave a free hand to the managements. The new arrangement also ensured that students paid the same fee till they completed their course.

Congress member Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan alleged that the CPI(M) was planning to capture the general education sector.
