Kozhikode: The geological study team which examined Thorodumala, Orakkokunnu and Peryamala at Kanthalodu village at Balusserry in the district where cracks developed on earth, said in their interim report that there was no possibility of earthquake in the area.

The team submitted the report to District Collector A. Jayathilak on Wednesday. They said in their report that this was a natural phenomenon due to heavy rain. Hence there was no cause for panic. They, however, suggested that the families within 100 metres circumference of the Peryamala area where the crack was observed be shifted to safer places as there were chances of the earth caving in causing damage to lives and property in rain in the future.

Also, people residing within a circumference of 50 metres of the spot at Thorodumala and Orakkokunnu should be shifted to safer places. A total of 15 families will have to be shifted to safer places. The team also suggested that facilities to drain away rain water on both sides of the hill be put in place.
