KOCHI: Progress of work on the rail and road connectivity to the international container transhipment terminal on Vallarpadam Island was reviewed here on Monday at a meeting attended by officials of the District Administration. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, Cochin Port Trust Chairman N. Ramachandran and officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) attended the meeting.
Shivarama Raju represented the NHAI and Keshava Chandran represented RVNL at the meeting.
The National Highway connectivity project was inaugurated in February this year and the Government of Kerala had constituted a cell to speed up land acquisition for the project that began in May this year.
The State Government had exempted the land deals for the connectivity project from stamp duty and registration in case of direct purchase. For the rail connectivity, preliminary work for erection of concrete plants and casting beds for pre-cast girders were in progress. Approach roads to the main bridge were over.
