Kozhikode: The Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has appealed to the senior divisional commercial manager take up the issue of modernisation of Kozhikode Railway Station at the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of the Palakkad division on August 8.

In a memorandum to the official here on Thursday, the former president of the CCCI and DRUCC member C.E.Chakkunny said that the work of the railway station was at present going at a slow pace. The delay in completing the works would deprive the passengers benefits of updated facilities on time, he said.

He demanded that more ticket counters be opened at the railway station considering the rush during peak hours.

Likewise, more reservation counters should be opened to clear the rush during peak season, Mr. Chakkunny said.

Halt for the Kannur-Coimbatore passenger train at the Kallai station is another demand.

The CCCI welcomed the decision of the Railways to run the weekly Kannur-Yeshwantpur Express thrice a week. Mr. Chakkunny said a train between Shoranur and Kannur during daytime would be beneficial to passengers.
