THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Southern Air Command (SAC) will celebrate its raising day on July 20, a press note issued here said.

The 23rd raising day of the SAC assumes added significance as it falls in the platinum jubilee year of the Indian Air Force.

Besides actively participating in the major air operations in Sri Lanka and Kargil, the Southern Air Command also has performed several crucial relief operations inside the country as well as abroad.

During the evacuation and relief operations that were carried out after the tsunami struck in 2004, the Southern Air Command was the first task force on the scene of devastation and made outstanding contributions in saving lives not only in the southern States but also in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, the press note said.

On the occasion of the SAC raising day, there are various programmes being conducted for the serving as well as retired Air Force personnel and their families, the press note said.
