THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress has demanded a vigilance inquiry into the alleged acceptance of Rs.1 crore by a deputy general manager of the Deshabhimani from a financial firm, that is facing legal proceedings.

Congress spokesperson M.M. Hassan told a news conference here on Monday that the affair must be investigated and responsibility fixed.

“This is not an internal matter of the CPI(M) and it cannot be allowed to be hushed up” he said. The functionary has since been expelled from the party.

Mr. Hassan pointed out that the party itself admitted to wrongdoing by the Deshabhimani employee and said this was significant given the allegations that had been raised by the party leadership against a ‘media syndicate’.
