THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Four persons were killed and 13 injured in two separate road accidents that occurred near Nalanchira and Pallipuram on Saturday in the district.

In the first incident near Pallipuram on the NH 47, two persons were killed when a fish-laden mini-lorry that was coming from Beypore rammed a car that was returning from the Thiruvananthapuram airport to Mavelikara around 5.35 a.m.

Zeenath, 30, Kuzhiyathu Vadekathil, Kollakadavu, Alaramapuram, Mavelikara, who was travelling in the car died in the accident. Basheeer, 40, a native of Kondotty, who was in the mini-lorry was also killed.

Zeenath and her family members were returning to Mavelikara after dropping her husband, Kasim, at the airport. Zeenth's children, who were injured, were admitted to the SAT Hospital.

The accident took place when the mini-lorry tried to overtake another vehicle.

The mini-lorry after colliding with the car that was coming in the opposite direction rammed a wall and fell into a six-feet deep pit.

The Fire and Rescue Services had to rush from the capital and Attingal and use hydraulic cutters and other equipment to extricate the driver, Jasim, 21.

Siddique, 48, Thankakutty, 45, Mohammed, 55 and car driver Thampikunju, 53, who were injured in the accident were admitted to the Medical College Hospital. The police have registered a case.

Second incident

In the second incident, two persons were killed when the Tata Sumo in which they were proceeding from Kunnapuzha near Thirumala to Thiruvalla hit a road divider and overturned near Nalanchira on MC Road around 6 p.m.

The deceased were identified as Vipin, 28, a resident of Pravachambalam and Mony alias Ash Vaikuntan, 32, a resident of Kattakalveedu, Chamum, Kunnapuzha.

Those injured were identified as Rahul, Sanal, Sooraj, Rajesh, Kiran and the driver, Gopakumar.

All the injured were admitted to Medical College Hospital.

They were proceeding for a wedding in Thiruvalla.
