THRISSUR: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has said that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is no longer a party of the poor.

Inaugurating a meeting at the Mala panchayat ground on Wednesday to celebrate the centenary of the Satyagraha movement, Mr. Chennithala alleged that the CPI(M) catered to the interests of the rich and the famous.

"The CPI(M) shamelessly appeases minority communities and associates with fundamentalist outfits. One thing is sure: the United Democratic Front will win forthcoming elections by a large majority," he said. The meeting honoured 700 veteran Congress workers.

KPCC treasurer C.N. Balakrishnan, V.D. Satheesan and K. Babu, MLAs, were present.
