Vidyasagar did not compose a Malayalam film song for nearly two years after `Chanthupottu.' "I terribly missed Malayalam cinema," he says. He is back now though, with `Goal', Kamal's film with a crop of fresh faces, which was released on Friday. And there is more good news for music lovers: Vidyasagar will compose songs for a few more Malayalam films.
"Later in the year, I will score music for Sibi Malayil's film with Mohanlal, which is a musical; I am really excited about it," says the Chennai-based composer.
The year will also see him working with Lal Jose and Ranjith. "I am really happy to be back; though I have composed music for Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films too, my best work has undoubtedly been in Malayalam." He has given Malayalam cinema some lovely songs, ever since his debut with "Vennila chandanakinnam... " (`Azhakiya Ravanan') in 1996.
Such outstanding work did not go unnoticed; he walked away with the State award for the best music director on three occasions. "I try to give my best to every Malayalam film I do. It is Malayalam cinema that first gave me the respect I deserved," he says.
Vidyasagar is currently composing music for two Tamil films, which have Vijay and Cheran as heroes. "I am also doing a Hindi film with Priyadarshan," he adds.
