Film director Major Ravi and playback singer Vineeth Srinivasan were the guests at the valedictory function of Vista 2009, an inter-school CBSE youth festival held at Rajagiri Public School, Kalamassery. Viswajyothi CMI Public School, Angamaly, was the overall champion.

Short films for festival

Short filmStudents from over a dozen schools are readying short films and documentaries for screening at a short film documentary fest-’09, that would be held at the Ernakulam Town Hall on November 14. “Teachers and PTA members too will help the students,” said Anil, secretary of the Sign Art and Cultural Charitable Society, North Paravur, the organisers. Seminar on astrophysics

In order to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy, a seminar on astrophysics was held at St. Patrick’s Academy, Angamaly. The resource person was renowned scientist and honorary professor at Cusat, Prof. R. Pratap. The discussions were on the Big Bang theory, Milky Way, Asteroid Belt, White Dwarf and Black Hole. It was followed by an interaction session with the students.

Wins environmental award

Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, has won the Vegaland Environmental Award in the “Best 20 school category-State level”, for creating an eco-friendly atmosphere in the school. The school’s achievements include converting the school compound into a plastic-free zone and the introduction of rainwater harvesting, a few years ago. The Green Force – a team of students from the middle school takes care of the school’s biogas plant, kitchen garden and herbal garden. The school has also banned all carbonated drinks and colas.

The herbal garden was started with the help of Dhatri Ayurveda. The aim is to ensure that children get exposed to the herbs used traditionally in Kerala as Ayurvedic medicines.
