KOCHI: Fisheries Minister S. Sarma said here on Thursday that the reason for the advancement of the poorer sections of society in Kerala was the land reforms that led to distribution of land to the landless.

To make further progress and to sustain the advantages brought about by the land reforms industrial growth was needed, said the Minister after inaugurating a mela organised by State Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation for wiping out loan arrears.

K. Babu, MLA, presided over the function.

M.K. Purushothaman, MLA., Ernakulam District Panchayat president P.S. Shaila, chairman of the Corporation V.R. Shivarajan, Managing Director P.B. Sidhardhan and district panchayat member Lizzy George participated in the programme.
