`Easy and direct' questions peppered with a few surprises

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations for class 10 began in the State on Friday, with students terming most questions for the introductory social-science paper "easy" and "direct."

The 80-mark question paper with 24 questions, however, had its share of surprises, as a section called "match the following" was introduced. The four-mark question, which came with a choice, asked students to match the name of authors according to their works.

"The section was a little confusing as we never expected `match the following' as a possible question for the students of class 10," said Bhama K. Menon, who teaches social science at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Kodunganoor.
