KOCHI: The Special Squad formed under Sunil Jacob, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam, to probe old theft and robbery cases arrested one person wanted in various theft cases in the State and in Tamil Nadu.

Naseer, 47, also known as Edappally Naseer, of Kandangamparambu, Ottayani, Chavakkad, was arrested from the Boat Jetty here on Monday night.

He confessed to taking gold ornaments weighing 72 sovereigns, Rs. 1.25 lakh and a mobile phone from the house of Varghese Kuriakose at Piyoli Lane in Ernakulam Town Central police station limits, gold ornaments weighing 40 sovereigns and wrist watches from the house of Raveendran at LFC Road in Ernakulam Town North police station limits, gold ornaments weighing 22 sovereigns from the house of Mohankumar in SRM Road and gold ornaments weighing 14 sovereigns, Rs. 5,000 and a mobile phone from the house of Jacob in Kozhikode Medical College police station limits. The accused has nearly 50 cases pending against him in Mannarkad, Mathilakom, Vaikom and North Paravur police stations. He has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in various theft cases registered in Njarakkal and Kunnamkulam police stations. He had served prison sentence for nearly 17 years in various theft cases registered within the State and in Tamil Nadu.
