Thiruvananthapuram: Air Marshal Y.R. Rane, a veteran fighter pilot, will take charge as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command (SAC) Headquarters here on Thursday.

He succeeds Air Marshal P.S. Ahluwalia who has been appointed as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the prestigious Western Air Command.

Air Marshal Rane is a highly decorated officer and holder of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vayu Sena Medal (VM). An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Rane was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in 1969.
