Mammootty, Padmapriya selected best actors

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: `Karuthapakshikal' directed by Kamal has won the Atlas Film Critics award for the best Malayalam film in 2006. Kamal was adjudged the best director of the year.

`Raathrimazha' directed by Lenin Rajendran, `Anandabhairavi' directed by Jayaraj and `Kayyoppu' produced by Renjith and Sulfath Mammootty shared the honour for the second best film. Keerthichakra directed by Major Ravi bagged a special prize.

Mammootty was adjudged the best actor for his roles in `Karuthapakshikal' and `Kayyoppu' while Padmapriya is the best actress for her performance in the films `Karuthapakshikal' and `Yes Your Honour.'

Producer P.V.Gangadharan has bagged the Chalachitra Retnam award for his contribution to Malayalam cinema. The awards were announced by the Kerala Film Critics Association president Thekkinkadu Joseph and Atlas Group chairman M.M.Ramachandran.

Jagathy Sreekumar is the second best actor (`Vaasthavam,' `Palungu' and `Classmates') and Mohini the second best actress (`Ammathottil').

Alex Paul was selected the best music director (`Classmates' and `Vaasthavam'). M.G.Sreekumar and Manjari won the awards for best playback singers.

`Classmates' and `Rasathantram' were declared the most popular films.
