Commuters' plea to Railways

Though it is a welcome move to introduce a new train in place of the Link Express by extending the Chennai-Coimbatore train (via) Tiruchirappalli to Mangalore, the new service will prove to be more expensive to those travelling between Mangalore and Coimbatore.

The Link Express has 10 general second-class coaches, but the new train will have only four general second-class coaches.

Although the train has 10 sleeper-class coaches, commuters seldom use it while travelling during the day owing to the increased fare and reservation charges.

Moreover, the train halts at smaller stations where the platforms are not quite long.

Many platforms are not big enough to accommodate all the coaches and often, the general coaches remain out of the platform.

The Railways should `convert' three or four sleeper-coaches as general second-class coaches between Coimbatore and Mangalore to help retain the existing facilities and prevent crowding during the daytime.
