THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A sum of Rs. 15 crore has been allocated from the Central Road Fund for the widening, improvement and cross-drainage facilities of the 20-km Pallichal-Venganoor-Vizhinjam-Kovalam road.

The funds were allocated for taking up the work during 2009-2010 at the initiative of MP and Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor.

The PWD road, one of the busiest in the suburbs, is a link from NH 47 to the Vizhinjam harbour and to the famed beach resort of Kovalam. The proposed widening and improvement of the road stretch assumes significance in view of the proposed International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vizhinjam.
