THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Poet Sugathakumari has been selected for this year’s Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, Kerala government’s highest literary honour.

Culture Minister M.A. Baby said here on Friday that Sugathakumari was chosen for the award in view of her outstanding contribution to Malayalam literature.

She was selected by a committee headed by poet O.N.V. Kurup and comprising Kerala Sahitya Akademi president M. Mukundan, Dr. D. Benjamin and Prof. Sreedevi. The award consists of a purse of Rs.1 lakh, citation and a statuette. An environmentalist, Sugathakumari had played a pivotal role in the Save Silent Valley movement..
