KOCHI: The Public Works Department should take steps for clearing the water logging at Kaloor, C.K. Manisankar, Deputy Mayor has demanded.

It was the responsibility of the Department to ensure that the drains from the road owned by it are properly connected to main canals to carry away storm water. One of the drains from the road to main canals was blocked by some residents associations after they obtained a court order to that effect, said Manisankar in a statement.

The issue of water-logging was taken up with the PWD Minister and he had issued directions to the department to prepare an estimate for constructing another drain. But delay by department officials in completing the proceedings worsened the situation. Mr. Manisankar said the corporation had removed the silt in the drain at Kaloor on several occasions. But the non-removal of silt was not the only reason for water logging in the area, he said.

Mr. Manisankar said that the water-logging in Kaloor was reported on occasions when the residents had objected to diversion of the water through the drain at Shenoy’s road.
