THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fourteen films have been recommended for the competition section and seven films each have been recommended for the Indian Cinema and Malayalam Cinema sections of the 13th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) 2008 scheduled to be held here in December.

Minister for Culture and Education M.A. Baby told reporters here on Thursday that ‘Akasha Gopuram’ (K.P. Kumaran) ‘Adayalangal’ (M.G. Sasi), ‘Gulabi Talkies’ (Girish Kasaravalli), ‘Firaaq’ (Nandita Das) and ‘Rupantar’ (Abu Sayeed) are some of the films that have been recommended for the competition section.

The seven films recommended by the preview committee for the Indian Cinema section are ‘Kanchivaram’ (Priyadarsan), ‘Yarwang’ or ‘Roots’ (Joseph Pulinthanath), ‘Chathuranga’ (Indranil Mukherjee) ‘Barah anna’ (Raja Menon), ‘Little Zizon’ (Sooni Taraporevala), ‘Zero Bridge’ (Tariq Tapa, Krishnan Seshadri) and ‘Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai’ (Gomatam).

The Malayalam section comprises ‘Thirakatha’ (Renjith), ‘Kadha Parayumbol’ (M. Mohanan), ‘Thalapavu’ (Madhupal), ‘Laptop’ (Rupesh Paul) ‘Vilapangalkappuram’ (T.V. Chandran), ‘Manjadikkuru (Anjali Menon) and ‘Gulmohar’ (Jayaraj).

The preview committee for the competition, Malayalam and Indian cinema sections headed by film-maker Kamal and comprising Krishnanunni, Nandakumar, Damodar Prasad, V.S. Bindu and member-secretary K.S. Sreekumar watched 179 films including 55 Indian and 14 Malayalam films.

Films for the documentary and short film section were recommended by a panel headed by C.P. Padmakumar.
