KOCHI: Energy conservation is the key to energy security. The message has to be taken to the younger generation for successful implementation of the conservation programmes. The Ministry of Power, in association with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, has devised a programme to spread the message through a painting competition for children.

The competition is being organised at the school, State and national levels. The competition will be of two hour duration and students of standards four and five are eligible to participate. Best two paintings at the school-level should be sent to the nodal officer of the State. The Nodal Officer of the State is GSK Nair, NTPC Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Power Project, Alappuzha. The children can select any of the three themes allocated for schools. The themes are energy efficiency at home, school; save oil – keep future in control; ‘bijli bachao – unnati lao’.

The State-level painting competition will be held on November 14. The first, second and third prize winners of each State and Union Territory will be invited to New Delhi to participate in the national level competition on December 12, 2008.

Sleeper class rail fare or State roadways bus fare for each participant and two guardians will be reimbursed. A participation certificate will also be given.
