Tantris of Thazhamon Illam to be included in panel

KOCHI: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday directed the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to constitute a committee for the selection of Melsanthis for the Sabarimala and Malikappuram temples by co-opting two experts in Tantric and ‘puja vidhies’ and the TDB commissioner.
The Bench comprising Justice P.R. Raman and Justice T.R. Ramachandran Nair also appointed the former High Court judge K. Padmanabhan Nair observer to oversee the selection process. The former judge has also been directed to file a report after the selection.
The selection committee now comprises the board members and two Tantris of Thazhamon Illam.
The Bench said the selection committee would consist of the president and two members of the board, Devaswom Commissioner, two Tantris of Thazhamon Illam, one person to be selected from among the 10 former Melsanthis of Sabarimala and Malikappuram, and another to be selected from among the 10 experts provided by the Thanthravidyapeetom, Aluva, as well as the Kerala Thanthri Samajam.
The court directed senior Tantri Kandararu Maheswaru to co-opt the two additional members in consultation with the other Tantri in the selection committee.
