THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Swathanthra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF) has urged the State government to dispel, without giving room for doubt, the fears of the fishermen families of Vizhinjam that they would be evicted from their homes while setting up the proposed deepwater container transhipment terminal there.

In a statement here on Sunday, KSMTF State president T. Peter and district secretary Anto Eliyas called on the government to publish the exact survey numbers of the properties proposed to be acquired for the project. If the project required the displacement of only 227 families, the government should specifically disclose the survey numbers of the plots where these families had their homes. The government should also ensure that they were suitably rehabilitated.

The fishermen community would extend all support to all development initiatives . At the same time, the people residing in coastal Vizhinjam should receive their due share of the employment opportunities generated by the project, it said.
