ALAPPUZHA: AITUC State general secretary Kanam Rajendran has said that the pro-SEZ talk of the CITU was mysterious, given the fact that the CITU had passed a resolution vowing to fight against SEZs in its national conference held at Bangaore.

Inaugurating the district convention of the AITUC here on Thursday, Mr. Rajendran said SEZs were always a trap that exploited workers, and that the AITUC had a permanent anti-SEZ stance. The organisation had led successful agitations against SEZs in Goa and Orissa and would continue to oppose such zones in Kerala.

CITU’s change of mind was baffling, he said and requested the CITU leaders to read the Bangalore resolution once again. Mr. Rajendran, who inaugurated the conference, alleged that the new policy announced by the government for SEZs was an eyewash because a new policy could not override the parent law.
