KASARAGOD: The State government is planning a special package for electronics industries aimed at attracting big names in the industry to the State, Minister for Industries Elamaram Karim has said.

The Minister was addressing a joint press conference here on Friday prior to the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of the strategic electronics manufacturing unit of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. at Seethamgoli Industrial Park of Kinfra here. Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony will lay the foundation stone for the unit at a function on Saturday. Chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Asok Kumar Baweja also participated in the press conference.

Mr. Karim said the State government would announce the package soon. The government was finalising the package and it would be in tune with the packages announced by other States for the electronics industry.

An electronics park would be started at Paivalige panchayat here, the Minister said. The government would acquire 500 acres of land for the purpose. The survey of the land had been completed and the acquisition process would be completed soon.

Mr. Karim said the starting of the HAL unit would lead to the overall development of Kasaragod. The unit would offer scope for development of ancillary industries during its second phase. A private group had mooted a proposal to set up a big industrial unit in Seethamgoli.
