KOLLAM: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has geared up for the Lok Sabha elections, said BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas here on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, he said conveners of all 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State had been appointed. The party has constituted a State-level election management committee. BJP leader C.K. Padmanabhan is the convener of the committee. Election conventions in all 20 constituencies will be conducted by September 30, he said adding that the BJP planned to field candidates in all the constituencies.
At the same time, new political equations were emerging in the State and there were indications of a third front in the State becoming a reality.
He said the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) were competing with one another to regain their lost vote banks. It was with this intention that the LDF government had declared scholarships for Muslim students, he said. But those in dire need of education scholarships were students from the scheduled communities. They have been ignored. The BJP is planning a launch a massive campaign against this, he said. A door-to-door campaign in this connection will be held, he said.
